Four Basic Snowboard Tricks - and How to Learn Them

Snowboard tricks aren't all that tricky

Snowboard tricks are the next thing you'll want to learn after you've mastered the basics of snowboarding -- who doesn't want to learn a few snowboard tricks? You might not want to let your mom watch you do snowboard tricks, but your friends will all be impressed!

Luckily, snowboard tricks don't really need to be all that 'tricky.' Most snowboard tricks are just extensions or additions to the basics you've already learned about getting up some speed, turning, and being able to stop. And, also just like learning the basics, it's simply a matter of memorizing the techniques for snowboard tricks, and then practice, practice, and more practice.

Here are four basic snowboard tricks:

1. Jumping. The first 'trick' that every snowboarder wants to learn, and should learn, is a basic jump.

2. The 'Indy Grab' is one of the first snowboard tricks that every rider wants to learn -- it's not easy, but it's 'simple.'

2. The 'backside 180.' Just like it sounds, this one of the basic snowboard tricks sees you jumping up, turning around one-hundred-and-eighty degrees in midair, landing and riding away. Piece of cake! :)

3. The 'roast beef.' Don't ask me, I didn't name it.... but the 'roast beef' is a variation of the Indy grab snowboard trick that most riders like to have in their repertoire.

4. Finally, to do any of these snowboard tricks successfully, every rider should learn how to 'ride fakie' -- which means to board with your front foot at the back and your back foot at the front. It may sound easy, but everything you already know about snowboarding has to be done in an opposite way to master riding fakie. It's worth it, though, because you will often need to ride fakie to start or end snowboard tricks -- or to bail out if you can't complete one!

How to learn snowboard tricks? There are several ways -- get a friend to teach you, join a class, or do a search online for basic snowboard tricks videos. And then, like I said before, the secret to doing successful snowboard tricks is simply practice, practice, practice -- good luck!
