Professional Snowboarding: Is it the Career For You?
5 things to consider if you're thinking about professional snowboarding
Getting into professional snowboarding sounds like a wonderful idea -- I mean, what could be finer in life than to do what you love AND get paid for it??
Well, it depends on how you look at it - professional snowboarding could have some drawbacks, too. Sorry if this is 'popping your bubble,' but there are five things to consider if you're thinking about professional snowboarding as a career:
5 Things to Consider Before Becoming a Professional Snowboarder
1. Riders cannot live on powder alone. Will you actually be able to make enough money to live on in a professional snowboarding job? Get all the facts before you 'sign on the dotted line' because it may not add up to be a living wage.
2. Do you want to live away from home, or worse, spend time on the road? It's great if you happen to live right near an awesome ski resort that hires pros -- but how many of us have that option? It's more likely that professional snowboarding will take you far from friends and family, so you'll need to take that into consideration.
3. Are you a consistent and enthusiastic learner? Any professional snowboarding job will come with an expectation that you not 'sit on your laurels' (or your board), but be constantly striving to learn new things, and keep up with all the latest moves and tricks. Is that for you?
4. How much time will you need to invest in professional snowboarding? Once it's your JOB, will you have time to go boarding just for fun?
5. And that's the final point to consider about professional snowboarding -- do you really WANT to do what you love for a JOB, or will that take all the FUN out doing something you love just because you love it?
If you are considering a career in professional snowboarding, you'll need consider all these points before you take the leap. But if you DO jump in to professional snowboarding, good luck with it, and PRAY FOR SNOW! :)
