What to Look For in a Snowboard Bag

Tips for choosing the right snowboard bag

Choosing the right snowboard bag is one of the most important decisions you'll make when you set out to be a boarder. It doesn't seem like a snowboard bag would be that big a deal, but after all, it may put on a LOT of miles with you over the years, so you want your snowboard bag to be a good one!

So what are the characteristics of a 'good' snowboard bag?

1. Solid construction. Check the type of material -- does the snowboard bag seem flimsy, or sturdy? Check the seams -- are they intact, and reinforced? Are the side panels padded and reinforced? Will the construction see your snowboard bag through being tossed in and out of the backs of trucks, etc.?

2. Extra compartments. A snowboard bag isn't just to carry your snowboard, you know. :) It has to hold lots of other accessories, too, including a maintenance kit tool set. Does it incorporate a boot compartment, or have an easy way to attach one?

3. Actual size. What size of snowboard bag is comfortable for you? If it's too large, it may feel cumbersome on some trips, yet it needs to be large enough to serve its purpose, too.

4. A deluxe snowboard bag will also include board cinch straps and/or a padded divider in the middle so that you can carry more than one snowboard at a time in the same bag. Is this something you think you might like?

5. Think safety when it comes to your snowboard bag, just like in other aspects of snowboarding. Will the bag be clumsy or easy to carry? Are there seams, tabs or cinches that may get caught on things as you are walking? Will it be so heavy with everything in it that you might hurt your shoulders or back?

Good luck in finding and choosing just the right snowboard bag for YOU!
